Learning Environment
Accomplished mathematics teachers help students
learn mathematics by creating environments in which students are active
learners, show willingness
to take intellectual risks, develop confidence and self-esteem, and value
mathematics. This environment fosters students’ learning of mathematics.
Reflection on the Standard
Within the scope of the classroom environment are not only its tangible
physical trappings, but also its intangible psychological
onesthe teacher's attitude and demeanor, his or her behavior
towards students, and his or her inclination towards the subject. The
effective teacher must strive to provide a learning environment that
is both physically attractive and psychologically enriching.
