Contributing to the Professional
Community
Accomplished mathematics teachers collaborate with
peers and other education professionals to strengthen their school’s
programs, advance knowledge, and contribute to improving practice within
the field.
Reflection on the Standard
Just as no man is an island, no teacher works entirely independently
of his or her peers. Professional collaboration allows for the sharing
of ideas, strategies, and advice, improving the climate and effectiveness
of a school and its teachers. It is incumbent upon the effective teacher
to share his or her experience with colleagues, to seek advice and
input from those same colleagues, and to foster a climate of collaboration
rather than competition.
